Jetour South Africa has formally confirmed a significant update to the payload capacity of its T1 and T2 model range, following public discussion around the vehicles’ original homologated rating of 300 kg. After direct engagement with Jetour Head Office and the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications, the brand has secured approval for a revised payload capacity of 475 kg, inclusive of the driver.

The update follows a review process between Jetour South Africa, Jetour’s head office and the NRCS, the body responsible for approving vehicle specifications in South Africa. Based on that review, the NRCS has approved a payload capacity of 475 kg for the relevant Jetour T1 and T2 model range, more than 150 kg higher than the figure originally published for these vehicles.

Importantly, the revised rating is not limited to vehicles yet to be sold. Jetour South Africa has confirmed that, provided a vehicle falls within the model range and specifications covered by the NRCS approval, the updated 475 kg payload capacity applies equally to existing T1 and T2 vehicles already sold and on the road. Owners of current vehicles within the approved scope are therefore covered by the same revised figure as buyers of new models.

Jetour South Africa has been clear that the increased capacity does not require any changes to the vehicle itself. No mechanical, structural or component modifications are needed for the revised payload capacity to apply. The 475 kg rating relates to the T1 and T2 models in their existing mechanical and structural configuration, meaning the vehicles already on the road are, and always have been, capable of carrying this load.
